Road Closures
Tiger Drive will be closed to all traffic starting at 7:30 a.m., and will remain closed until the last walker has entered Morrow's Meadow. SR 32 will have heavy traffic restrictions and closures from 7:45 to 8:15. Access to River Road will be very limited between 8:00 and 9:30. Every effort will be made to keep vehicular traffic off of the race course, but please remain aware of local residents who may attempt to access the road during the race.
Parking
There is NO parking in Morrow's Meadow on race morning. We recommend parking in the Yorktown Middle School Parking lot. This will allow you to exit out to SR 32 at any time. Additional parking can be found at Yorktown High School and throughout downtown Yorktown including the Yorktown Public Library and the Yorktown United Methodist Church. It is a short walk to the start line.
CHIP TIMING
All 4 mile athletes will be offered a shoe tag for electronic chip timing. The shoe tag should be affixed to your shoelaces on top of your shoe. Your chip will give you the most accurate finish time. You will receive your chip at the time you pick up your packet. You assume responsibility for it, and if it is not returned for any reason, you will be responsible for paying the $20.00 replacement fee to Reed Results. DO NOT TAKE A CHIP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO CROSS THE FINISH LINE!
Start/Finish
Both Races start on Smith Street (State Road 32) near the Speedway gas station at 8:00. In addition to the restrooms located at Morrow's Meadow, two additional Port-O-Lets will be setup near the start line. Participants should be on their way to the start line no later than 7:40 to ensure they are at the start line in time for the official start. We recommend using the foot bridge behind Pizza King, and walking up the hill to the start line. Use caution as the highway will not be closed to traffic until 7:45 a.m. Participants should plan to gather on nearby sidewalks and side streets until instructed to enter the roadway at 7:45. Please be respectful of faster participants who may wish to start near the front, while walkers should start in the back of the pack. All athletes must begin the race by crossing the official start line and timing mat in the center of the road by running between the gates. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. While it may take several minutes for all athletes to cross the start line, your shoe tag will record your individual total elapsed time from start to finish. The finish line is near the large pavilion in Morrow's Meadow. Only participants are permitted in the finish area.
Race Course
Both races begin on SR 32 at the Speedway gas station at 8 a.m. Participants will travel East through downtown, across the bridge (keep to the left) and turn left (North) onto Tiger Drive. The Fun Run participants will then turn left into Morrow's Meadow and follow the marked path to the finish line near the large pavilion. The 4 mile participants will continue North on Tiger Drive (keep to the right) and cross River Road entering the paved trail loop. Running counterclockwise around the 1.1 mile loop, participants will exit the trail while turning South back onto Tiger Drive. The turn into Morrow's Meadow occurs with over a mile remaining where you will follow the marked path around the large outer loop of the park before turning down the main road and into the finish chute near the large pavilion. The entire course is on smooth paved trails with the exception of a very short section of grass in the park while changing trails near the end of the 4 mile course.
Bib Numbers
4 mile athletes are required to wear their bib visible at all times during the race. The bib should be worn on the front of your shirt. Bib Numbers are non-transferable and may not be sold. Fun runners will not wear bib numbers.
Aid Stations/Medical Assistance
There are aid stations stocked with water throughout the course. Specifically, there will be an aid station at the entrance and exit of the sportspark loop near miles 1 and 2, as well as one in the park near mile 3.. The finish area will be stocked with water, bananas, and light snacks. Medical Personnel will be stationed at the finish line. Fire and Police will be stationed throughout the race course for traffic control. Anyone needing medical assistance should seek one of these locations, or locate a committee member wearing a staff shirt with a hand-held radio.
Spectator Information
Spectators should plan to cheer for participants at various points along the race course. Spectators may choose to walk downtown to the start line for the start of the race, or stand near the entrance to Morrow's Meadow to cheer for participants as they begin and continue North on Tiger Drive. Spectators will have time to relocate to various points in Morrow's Meadow to cheer for their friends and family as they near the finish. Please keep the course trail and finish chute clear at all times.
Post Race Awards
All finishers will be offered a finisher medal after they cross the finish line! All participants and spectators should plan to attend the Post Race Awards that will begin promptly at the conclusion of the race event (approx 9:15) at the large pavilion finish area.
